New dog licenses and renewals for Temple City residents are issued by the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society.
New licenses must be obtained in person at the Humane Society office. Renewals may be mailed to the Humane Society or submitted in person at the Humane Society office.

All dogs in Temple City over 4 months old must be licensed. All dogs must be spayed or neutered, must have a current rabies vaccination, and must have a microchip implant.
The maximum number of dogs allowed per household is as follows:
- property with 1 single-family residence: 3 dogs
- property with 2 dwelling units: 2 dogs per household
- property with 3 or more dwelling units: 1 dog per household
- Certificate of current rabies vaccination valid through the end of the licensing period (June 30)
- Proof of microchip implant

Dog owners may request exceptions to the spay/neuter requirements for any of the following reasons, verified by documentation:
1) The dog is a competition dog: it has competed in at least one dog show within the past year; it has earned a title from a purebred dog registry; or the owner is a member of a purebred dog breed club that maintains and enforces a code of ethics for dog breeding
2) The dog is a law enforcement dog
3) The dog is a service dog
4) The dog is unable to be spayed or neutered due to negative health consequences, as verified by a veterinarian
Dog owners may request an exception to the rabies vaccination requirement by submitting a request to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

Temple City has adopted Title 10 of the Los Angeles County Code which provides requirements for licensing, spaying/neutering, and vaccinating cats and dogs.
