Overnight Parking

On June 15, 2010, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 10-935, amending the overnight parking restrictions.

On June 29, 2010, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 10-4679, establishing fees for the new overnight parking permit program.

Some of the most notable changes are as follows:

• Overnight parking is prohibited from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.;

• A new annual fee has been established and the annual overnight parking permit is prorated quarterly;

• A senior discount is provided for residents who are 65 years of age or older;

• A fee will be charged for the transfer or replacement of an overnight parking permit;

• Two (2) monthly permits may be issued per calendar year;

• A maximum of two (2) annual overnight parking permits may be issued per household;

• All vehicles at the residence must be currently registered to the applicant's address.

The new overnight parking restrictions are effective beginning July 16, 2010.  A grace period for the enforcement of the new hours will be given until September 15, 2010.

The City now offers three types of overnight parking permits: Annual, Monthly, and Temporary.

Annual Overnight Parking Permit – The maximum number of annual overnight parking permits shall be limited to two (2) per household.  The fee for an annual overnight parking permit shall be prorated quarterly.  A senior discount is provided for residents who are 65 years of age or older.  All annual overnight parking permits expire at 11:59 p.m. of the 31^st day of December of the year for which the permits were issued.  The fee for an annual overnight parking permit is as follows:

Monthly Overnight Parking Permit – Only one (1) monthly overnight parking permit may be issued per residence per month.  A maximum of two (2) monthly permits will be issued within a calendar year.  The fee for a monthly permit shall be $20.00.  A monthly permit expires at 11:59 p.m. on the 30^th day, unless sooner revoked.

Temporary Overnight Parking Permit - A temporary parking permit may be purchased  from our overnight parking  permit dispenser located at the southeast corner of City Hall 9701 Las Tunas Drive (see map).  The overnight parking permit dispenser provides residents and guests with the convenience of being able to purchase an overnight parking permit seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day.  Overnight parking permits are available at a cost of $2.00 a day and may be obtained in one, two or three day increments and are valid for one to three days from the date of purchase.  Residents and guests may purchase an overnight  parking permit with $1 & $5 bills, coins or credit cards.

DISPLAY OF PERMIT
The permit holder shall at all times display the overnight parking permit, as required:

Annual Permit - All annual overnight parking permits shall be visibly placed on the outside of the rear (back) window in the lower left hand corner (driver’s side), and the permit shall not be effective unless so placed.

Monthly Permit - All monthly overnight parking permits shall be visibly placed face-up on the driver’s side dashboard area of the vehicle, and the permit shall not be effective unless so placed

Temporary Permit - All temporary overnight parking permits shall be visibly placed face-up on the driver's side dashboard area of the vehicle, and the permit shall not be effective unless so placed.  Temporary overnight parking permits are not effective unless the vehicle license number or vehicle identification number (VIN) is clearly displayed, in ink, on the permit.

If the overnight parking permit dispenser is out of service, an overnight parking permit may be purchased at Civic Center, 5938 Kauffman Avenue during regular business hours (Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.).  After business hours, if the overnight parking permit dispenser is out of service, a permit may be purchased at the Temple Sheriff's Station 8838 Las Tunas Drive.
