Specialized Services:  In cooperation with the City of El Monte and Santa Anita Family Services, Temple City offers the following special services:
REGISTRY: Individuals can acquire a list of workers who can assist the client in the home. The registry has housekeepers, personal care attendants, meal preparation and more.
RESPITE CARE: Help is available for caregivers of frail elderly.
CASE MANAGEMENT: An in-depth, comprehensive service that assists the frail elderly to live an independent lifestyle while remaining in their own home. (626) 580-2210

HEALTHY THURSDAY SERIES

Each Thursday,  the Live Oak Park Community Center will play host to a variety of guest speakers who will provide information, tips and handouts on health related subjects and interests. A new topic each week! Schedules will be available at the Live Oak Park Community Center. RESERVATIONS are not necessary.  Workshops in English 10 am - Workshops in Cantonese 11 am

HEALTH FAIR 2010 & Salute To Veterans BBQ
Thursday, November 11   10:30 am - 2 pm  
Health conscious seniors with their families and friends are invited to join the community's honored veterans as two great events are combined at Live Oak Park. The Annual Health Fair and our Salute to Veterans BBQ will be held in the picnic shelter at Live Oak Park. 

Bring your appetite, because the Salute to Veterans BBQ (BBQ coupon required) will be serving up some soulful, mouth-watering 'que.  The event is FREE and open to the public. BBQ coupons will be available FREE to the first 500 people checking in at the registration table. This event celebrating good health and honoring our local vets, is co-sponsored by the Valley Health and Wellness Center.

Driver Safety Program  
September 20 & 21 OR November 8 & 9 Live Oak Park Community Center
The AARP Driver Safety Program, a 2-day hands-on course, will be offered at the Live Oak Park Community Center. The course is designed to reinforce and improve your current driving. Graduates may qualify for a multi-year discount on their auto insurance rates! The fee is only $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members, payable by check on the first day of class. Space is limited, so pre-registration is recommended. Call 579-0461 for more information and to pre-register.

Blood Pressure Screenings
Have your blood pressure taken by a nurse from Arcadia Methodist Hospital. Screenings will be held at the Live Oak Park Community Center from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. on
the third TUESDAY of each month
RESERVATIONS ARE NOT REQUIRED

SPINAL CHECK SCREENINGS available

 

Information will be provided on how to control and monitor a healthy blood pressure.

Adult Excursions

How Do I Register? Pre-Registration is required and must be made in person at the Live Oak Park Community Center. Reservations are accepted on a first-come basis with a maximum limit of passengers.
Where Do Trips Depart From? Guests will board at the flagpole north side of Live Oak Park, 10144 Bogue Street and from Woodward and Chapel, Alhambra
Refunds & Cancellations: Refunds will be given if a replacement is found.  Trips may be cancelled or changed at the discretion of the Parks & Recreation Department.

LIONS SIGHT PROGRAM
The Lions Sign Program provides FREE vision care for low-income seniors.  To qualify you must be 62 years or over, or disabled with a yearly income below $25,900 and live within the city limits of Temple City. A Lions Recycle for Sight Program drop off box is located at the Live Oak Park Community Center. Prescription,  non-prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses are needed.

Join A Club


  • Senior Citizen Club meets Tuesdays at 10:45 a.m. - 2 p.m. Why not get involved and join with new friends at the Live Oak Park Community Center. Bring your own lunch. Coffee and tea are provided. Contact  Arlo Van Houten (626) 286-5985 for additional information.
  • Bridge Card Club meets Mondays at 12 noon Serious card players and less than serious players are welcome.  Duplicate Bridge is played on Fridays at 12 noon - happy to match you with a partner!
  • Pinochle Club meets on Mondays at 12:30 pm
    Military Pinochle meets on Tuesdays at noon

 
Transportation Programs offered include Dial-A-Ride and the sale of MTA bus passes and tokens at a reduced rate for residents. Dial-A-Ride provides low cost transportation for seniors (60 years & over) and persons with a disability. A complete application is required. Bus Passes are sold from the 25th of the month to the 10th of the following month.  Access Services information
